What is a qualifying life event?
These events are defined by the IRS and include:
- Change in your legal marital status (marriage, legal separation, divorce, or death of a spouse)
- Change in employment status (for you, your spouse, or dependent) that affects eligibility for health insurance benefits
- Birth or date you adopt a child, or placement for adoption
- Death of your spouse or dependent
- Change in your dependent's eligibility
- Spouse's employer open enrollment
How much time do I have to make changes for an eligible qualifying event?
You have 30 days from the event date. (EX: loss of insurance, marriage, birth of a child)
