Inside the Classroom: Medina Valley High School

The Teaching & Training Program of Study at Medina Valley HS offers hands-on experience to our students who may be interested in joining the teaching profession. The program of study is offered to all students. Students begin their coursework as freshmen and as upperclassmen, they have opportunities to serve as peer tutors and to assist in the elementary classrooms. We visited as our students gained hands-on teaching experience with Ms. Winters' and Mrs. Jones' classes.

Students in Ms. Jones' class helped assist their peers, while Ms. Winters' classroom visited Castroville Elementary to assist in teaching the elementary students. What a rewarding opportunity this program provides for both the students in the program, as well as those students receiving the additional support. The Teaching & Training Program of Study offered at MVHS allows students to gain the knowledge & skills needed to pursue their careers in the education field.

The UIL Academics season is in full swing. The team traveled to Bandera on Saturday where they demolished the competition. The team finished first in academics overall and 2nd in speech & debate overall. Below are the individual results. Next for the UIL Academics team is the annual Medina Valley tournament on January 7th.

Last week, over 30 MVHS students participated in different activities to give their ideas for a possible 2nd High School. These students met during their leadership class and brainstormed ideas of what a perfect high school would look like - classroom, hallways, cafeteria, library, counseling center, outdoor areas. This information will then be given to the architects for consideration.

MVHS Choir students put on a show for guests at both a Spurs Game and the Natural Bridge Caverns. At the Spurs Game against the Phoenix Suns they sang the national anthem, and at Natural Bridge Caverns the tenor and bass choir entertained visitors with part of their winter concert repertoire.
