Child Nutrition

Special Diets & Food Allergies
Special diet requests must be completed using the MVISD Child Nutrition Special Dietary Needs Form for 2025-2026. Turn in the completed form to the campus nurse or email the completed form to [email protected] or you may submit it to the Child Nutrition Department at the Central Office.

Special Dietary Needs

The Child Nutrition Registered Dietitian (RD) is trained in nutrition, food labeling, and food production, and has access to a variety of educational resources. Nutritional and allergen information provided is sourced from food manufacturers and other third parties. The RD works closely with school staff, cafeteria personnel, and parents to communicate potential allergens in school menus and to address dietary modifications for students with documented needs. Nutritional analyses and common allergen details are found on our menus.

For more detailed information about ingredients in food products or recipes, please contact the Child Nutrition Department during regular business hours, Monday through Friday, from 7:30am to 4:00pm.

Students requiring special dietary accommodations must submit a Special Dietary Request Form to the Child Nutrition Department. The form should be updated as the dietary needs change. This form, mandated by the Texas Department of Agriculture, must be fully completed and signed by a medical authority  to be considered valid. No alternative forms will be accepted.

The responsibilities of the Child Nutrition Services are:

*Record allergens on a student's meal account once appropriate medical documentation is received.
*Offer nutrient analysis, including carbohydrate counts, to support diabetes management.
*Upon request, share information with parents or guardians about the nutritional value and/or ingredients of foods served in the school cafeteria.
*Conduct annual review of food labels.
*Provide reasonable menu accommodations for life-threatening allergies or medical conditions that meet the definition of the Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) of 1990 and the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA).
*Menu accommodations will not be made based on religious beliefs or personal food preferences.
