Meet our new Medina Valley ISD Superintendent, Emily Lorenz Emily lorenz Show Transcript I was very selective about what district I would even consider applying for and when the Medina Valley job opened I knew that this was 1 that I definitely wanted to throw my hat in the ring for because I had done some work here when I was with Region 20 and the people are wonderful the community is wonderful it's just as it's a great place to be the staff here has been amazing they've been wonderful they're hardworking they really know their specialty areas and they they all work together so collaboratively and I think that's the most amazing part so far and secondly the community they've embraced me at all the meetings I've gone to everyone I've met out in the community has just been fabulous and so it really feels like I belong here my motto is because kids so that is the heart of who I am so whether it's a finance question whether it's you know a discipline question a curriculum question I'm always going to ask myself what is best for the students of this District my leadership style is definitely servant leadership whether that be the cafeteria staff serving them food the bus drivers picking up first thing in the morning setting that stage for their whole day the teachers that are there instructing the classroom my job is to remove barriers for them so that they can be the most successful they possibly can be so I'm coming from a little bit smaller District a 4A district where I wore a lot of hats and so that gave me great opportunities to understand the role role that each person plays in The District so I think that's my strength is that I can support multiple areas multiple roles that eventually will touch kids and so I think my strength comes from having a great background kind of across the board but really in the area of curriculum and instruction that is my bread and butter that's where I spent a lot of my career is as a curriculum director and assistant super oversaw curriculum instruction so I think that's where my passion also is cuz that's where the instructions really it's where the magic happens for the kids I want them to know my passion I want them to know that I'm here because of the students of this District because they are our future we don't build widgets in our business I like to say that a lot is that we are truly building students Futures it's giving them that choice that after High School I can go on to a 2-year University I can go to a technical school I can go into the workforce and have a certification that gives me the leg up as a Medina Valley ISD student whatever they want to do after it's our responsibility to build those Futures and that's why we are because kids because eventually they're going to be leading our community they're going to be supporting this community and and that's why we're here Print
