MVHS Competes at Annual VASE Visual Art Scholastic Event

On Saturday, February 15th 14 students from Medina Valley High School competed 17 artworks at the Annual VASE Visual Art Scholastic Event for Region 20E at East Central High School in San Antonio. Each of the 1,252 artworks entered had to show intent, thoughtfulness and technique through sketches and a written component. Students then went through qualifications followed by an interview/critique with a working artist as judge. If the student scores between 51-60 they are rated as a 4 and the artwork is displayed for consideration for State VASE. These artworks also receive a highly coveted ribbon for their division. For many this is months of preparation and dedication for this extremely competitive event. Of the 17 artworks Medina Valley High School competed 16 artworks received a rating of 4 bringing home 16 medals. 7 of these students received a perfect score of 60 from their judge. Only 93 of the 1,252 artworks were chosen to advance to state and Medina Valley has 2 students; Aimee Dickinson for Division 1 and Kayla Devore for Division 2. These students will have their artwork judged again at the state event on April 25th at San Marcos High School. All of these artworks will be on display at the Annual Art Sale and Show Fundraiser on April 3rd at the Medina Valley High School in the main building $5 for adults, $3 for students, children 5 and under free. Please join us at that time to celebrate all of the Visual Art successes from this year.
