MVHS Boys Basketball vs Floresville
In basketball action last night, the varsity boys took on Floresville. The Panthers won 56-42. It was a must win since they were 1 game behind Southwest for a tie for 4th. Team defense held Floresville to only 2 points in the 2nd quarter. The offense picked up in the 3rd quarter and the boys built a 14-point lead going into the 4th. It never got any closer. Leading scorers were Christopher Child, 17 and Cristian Romo, 14. Stand outs on defense were Iverson McCray and Tymere Garrett. With the win and a Southwest lost, the varsity team will now face Southwest on Friday to see who goes to the playoffs. The play in game is scheduled for Friday night, at home, at 6:30. Good luck to the girls varsity on Thursday against Sam Houston at Alamo Stadium!
JV Boys Basketball
Last night your JV Boys Basketball team hosted the Floresville Tigers. The Tigers came out aggressively and took a 13-6 lead at the end of the 1st quarter. In the second quarter the Panthers picked up the pace and outscored the Tigers 22-8 to take a 28-21 lead into halftime. In the 2nd half the Panthers took control early and pulled away with a 59-40 win. High scorers for the Panthers were Jalen McBride with 13 points, Tanner Vaughn with 12 points, and Gavin Wheeler with 9 points. The Panthers finish the season with a 6-2 record in district.
Boys Freshmen Basketball
On Tuesday night the Freshman Boys basketball A-team took on Floresville at home and came away with a big win. The boys started slow and were losing by the end of the first quarter 18 – 15 but came out in the second quarter hot sparked by Ty Mills’ three-point shooting. By halftime the boys had a comfortable lead and came out in the second half looking to put the finishing touches on a great season. In the third quarter tight defense allowed the team to extend their lead and finish the game with a score of 78 to 54. Stand out performances by Lorenzo Morales, Carter McCray and Sebastian Garza. The Freshman Boys basketball team wrapped up district play with an impressive 9 and 1 season. Great job this year gentlemen.
On Tuesday night the Freshman boys’ basketball B-Team hosted Floresville in their last game of the season. The boys played a tough game but came up short with a final score of 40 to 38. The boys stated slow going into half losing 21 to 17, and didn’t pick up the intensity until the fourth quarter. Costly fouls and poor free throw shooting doomed the boys in what turned into a really exciting game that came down to the final seconds. Stand out performances by Daniel Shultz, Joel Tovar and Angel Saucedo. Thanks for all the hard work this season.
