MVMS Girls Basketball vs LAMS

MVMS 8th Grade Basketball Write-up

8th Grade B Team

The 8th grade B team faced one of our own Loma Alta at Loma last Monday to close out their season with a win ending the game 29 to 8. All around the Panthers played well even though they got off to a rough start in the first quarter. Brooke Duncan was our high scorer with 10 points followed by Raili Ruiz with 6. Annalysia Salazar and Starr Chavez played outstanding defence causing Loma Alta to turn over the ball continuously. Great effort was put forth by the entire team on both ends of the floor, allowing the Panthers to keep the lead.

Coach Verstuyft is very proud of the improvement these girls have shown. Keep working hard in all you do!

8th grade A team

Monday night the 8th grade A team played one of our own Loma Alta ending their season with a win, 35 to 15. High scorers of the night were Cara Garcia with 15 points, and Kynlee Crisp with 11 points. Everyone played all around great defence leading to many lay-ups for the Panthers to keep the big lead.

Coach Verstuyft would like to thank all of the 7th and 8th grade basketball players for coming out and working hard this year. You will all continue to do great things with hard work and determination. There is always room for improvement! Good luck next season!

7th Grade B Team

Last Monday, the 7th Grade B Team finished their season against Loma Alta.  The Panthers played neck to neck the first half falling behind by the end of the half.  The second half saw neither team scoring many baskets as the Panthers only outscored Loma 6-4 in the second half but it was not enough to win as the Panthers lost 14-21.  Leading the Panthers in points were Averie Frankie with 6 points, Savannah Christa 4 points, Riley Carnezales with 3 points, and Dakota Monday 1 point.  Other Panthers on the team were Lily Sagemuehle, Katie Shackleford, Riley Zinsmeyer, Alina Oliveros, and Katana Winton. Great Season Panthers and thank you for allowing Coach Thoele to be your coach.

7th Grade A Team

The 7th grade basketball team wrapped up their season with a nail biter of a game against Loma Alta.  Both teams played aggressive defensive as the score went back and forth the entire night.  By halftime, MV was leading by one.  We came back  ready to battle it out again the second half, pressing and determined to win.  LaHailey Rivera played a fabulous offensive game taking the ball to the hoop and contributing 13 points for the night. Avery Nash tossed some Loma Alta players around while contributing 9 points.  Jordyn Russell had over a dozen rebounds and contributed 8 total points.  Hadley Bippert contributed 4 points, shooting 100 % from the free throw line.  Madison Camacho swished a three pointer during our game. Kayla Guinther, McKenzie Vallejo, Jenna Mutz and Claire Boehme were a force off the bench.  With a phantom foul called by the ref with .03 seconds left on the clock- the girls were going to win by 1, just like the first round.  Unfortunately, this call put Loma on the free throw line- sinking two and letting them win the game by ONE!  The final score 38-39!

Our word this year was PROGRESS and that is exactly what we made.  We made progress on the court with our basketball skills and working together as a team.  We took many beatings from the teams’ we played and could have easily given up, but these girls knew that was never an option.  WE always came to compete.  Coach Hurtado is grateful to coach an amazing group of girls.
