I know that most of you are anxiously awaiting an announcement on our plans for starting school in August. As we work out the details, there is some information that I’d like to share with you at this time. The Texas Education Agency (TEA) has released guidance on starting school in the Fall, with two options being available to our students. Students will be able to attend school in person, or may receive instruction remotely due to concerns of coming to campus in light of COVID-19. Please note that districts are being required to offer in-person instruction for those who choose that option.

As you are all aware, MVISD has three dates scheduled for our Commencement Ceremony. Those dates are the originally scheduled date of June 5th, an alternate date of June 26th, and a second alternate date of July 17th. Taking into account the strict guidelines that TEA has released concerning outdoor in-person ceremonies, we will not be able to hold our ceremony on June 5th. We are hopeful that we will be able to have the ceremony on our first alternate date of June 26th. A firm decision on that date will be made at least two weeks prior.

I have been notified that a food service employee of our district has had a family member test positive for COVID-19 this week. That affected family member does not reside with the employee, but they have had direct contact. That food service employee was working at Potranco Elementary, and most recently worked this week. The employee and their family member have both began self-quarantine at home, as have all food service employees that worked with the employee whose family member has tested positive.
