Expectations

Campus administrators and staff will state expectations clearly and reinforce the importance of maintaining a cell phone, smartwatch, and wireless headphones and ear buds-free environment throughout the school year. Campus staff will monitor cell phones, smartwatch, and wireless headphones and ear buds violations. Also, any headphone usage will occur based on the approval and expectations set by individual classroom teachers. MVISD’s continued focus will be on the mitigation of educational distractions caused by the use of cell phones, smartwatch, and wireless headphones and ear buds during instructional time.


At the Beginning of the School Day:

  1. When the first bell rings, students must power off their personal communication devices (such as cell phones, tablets, and smartwatches).  
  2. At the beginning of zero period (MS) and 1st period (HS), students must place all cell phones, smartwatches, and wireless headphones and ear buds into their backpacks.
  3. It is the student’s responsibility to arrive at class on time with their personal communication devices out of sight in their backpack.

Throughout the School Day (including class time, passing periods and lunch):

  1. Maintain your cell phone, smartwatch, and wireless headphones and ear buds securely within your backpack for the entirety of the school day.
  2. Accessing your cell phone, smartwatch, and wireless headphones and ear buds anywhere on campus during the school day is strictly prohibited and will result in confiscation by a staff member.

Conclusion of the School Day:

  1. After the last bell rings to dismiss classes at the end of the day, students are permitted to utilize their cell phones, smartwatch, and wireless headphones and ear buds.
 

Expectations for POUCHES at the High School:

Campus administrators and staff will state expectations clearly and reinforce the importance of maintaining a cell phone, smartwatch, and wireless headphones and ear buds-free environment throughout the school year. Campus staff will monitor cell phones, smartwatch, and wireless headphones and ear buds violations. Also, any headphone usage will occur based on the approval and expectations set by individual classroom teachers. MVISD’s continued focus will be on the mitigation of educational distractions caused by the use of cell phones, smartwatch, and wireless headphones and ear buds during instructional time.

At the Beginning of the School Day:

  1. When the first bell rings, students must power off their personal communication devices (such as cell phones, tablets, and smartwatches).  
  2. At the beginning of 1st period (HS), students must place all cell phones, smartwatches, and wireless headphones and ear buds into their designated pouches.
  3. Once the cell phones, smartwatches, and wireless headphones and ear buds are safely stowed inside their pouch, students should securely latch the pouch using the locking mechanism and store it in their backpack.
  4. It is the student’s responsibility to request a replacement pouch from personnel on duty if they fail to have their pouch upon arrival.  Students will need to return the replacement pouch to the office at the end of the day.

Throughout the School Day (including class time, passing periods and lunch):

  1. Maintain your cell phone, smartwatch, and wireless headphones and ear buds securely within your assigned pouch and backpack for the entirety of the school day.
  2. In the event of leaving the campus for an appointment, unlock your pouch at the main office before exiting the building.  Upon returning, ensure to relock your pouch and place it in the backpack.
  3. Accessing your cell phone, smartwatch, and wireless headphones and ear buds anywhere on campus during the school day is strictly prohibited and will result in confiscation by a staff member.

Conclusion of the School Day:

  1. Upon conclusion of the school day, your last period teacher will use the pouch unlocking device to unlock your pouch.
  2. Stow your empty pouch in your backpack for the following day.  It is the student’s responsibility to keep track of their pouch.

Damaged Pouches and Use of a Key

If a student has a damaged pouch, please contact a school administrator immediately to receive a replacement pouch.  If the damaged pouch is a result of malice, negligence, or intentional acts a student will be subject to consequences established in the MVISD Student Code of Conduct and may result in paying restitution ($30) and may be placed in DAEP.  If a student is found to be in possession of a key and/or using the key to unlock a pouch, the student will be placed in DAEP.
