Social Studies

The introduction of the Texas Education Agency required standards for all social studies courses includes:
Throughout social studies in Kindergarten - Grade 12, students build a foundation in history; geography; economics; government; citizenship; culture; science, technology, and society; and social studies skills. The content, as appropriate for the grade level or course, enables students to understand the importance of patriotism, function in a free enterprise society, and appreciate the basic democratic values of our state and nation as referenced in the Texas Education Code (TEC), §28.002(h).
 
Elementary course sequencing:
Kindergarten - Explores Home, School, and Community
1st Grade -  Focus is Community Connections
2nd Grade - Focus is Community in Action
3rd Grade - Focus is Community Engagement
4th Grade - Texas History Survey
5th Grade - Unites States History Survey
 
Middle School course sequencing:
6th Grade Social Studies (Honors option available)
7th Grade Texas History (Honors option available)
8th Grade American History (Honors option available)
 
High School course sequencing:
9th Grade--World Geography or AP Human Geography
10th Grade--World History or AP World History
11th Grade--US History or US History Dual Credit
12th Grade--US Government or US Government Dual Credit (college entrance required)
12th Grade--Economics or Economics Dual Credit (college entrance required)
 
Social studies elective courses such as psychology, sociology, personal financial literacy and special topics in social studies are also available.
