Growth Information

The 2000 Census shows Medina County's population increasing 94% over a 10-year period. 

  • 1990 = 9,654 people
  • 2000 = 18,679 people

Student growth has increased 55% in the past 10 years.

  • 1990 - 1991 SY  =  1870 students
  • 2000 - 2001 SY  =  2896 students

Future enrollment of Medina Valley ISD is projected to increase an average of 4.5% annually over 10 years and 2.5% annually over the next 5 years.

It is projected that the next 5 years will add 400 – 700 additional students.

Medina Valley I.S.D. is the largest business and employer in Medina County currently employing over 460 people with an annual budget of approximately $22,000,000.

The district is in the process of constructing a new 750 student elementary school in the north east quadrant of the district.

The community has approved the sale of bonds which would allow for a 90,000 square foot expansion of the current Middle School.  The Middle School will then be converted to a High School.

An $800,000+ expansion/renovation to the current football stadium is currently underway to accommodate overcrowding at stadium events (football, graduation, etc.)

Northside ISD (our neighboring school district) is in the process of building an elementary and middle school near the Northside - Medina Valley border to accommodate recent expanding populations.

Loop 1604 is currently in a major expansion project from Bandera Rd. to Hwy 90 due to increased population.

TXDOT reports that the connection of FM 211 between FM 1957 (Potranco Rd.) and FM 471 North is in their future budget plans.

Toyota locating a plant on the Southside of San Antonio is expected to bring population increases in neighboring counties within the next five years.
