Even Start Family Literacy Parenting Classes

One of the main components of the Even Start Family Literacy Program are the Parenting Classes that are offered, everyday from 12:30 pm - 1:00 pm in the Even Start Building. Our classes use a variety of materials including Parents as Teachers curriculum, Family Frameworks curriculum and material from No Child Left Behind.
Our classes are taught by Miss Ruby Santos our Parent Educator and the topics for the Parenting classes focus on the importance of literacy in the lives of young children. Parents also discuss how their children develop physically, emotionally, socially, and intellectually at different ages. Parents occasionally will be placed in groups in order to discuss different activities that they can use with their children at home in order to help them develop their gross and fine motor skills.
Classes are taught bilingually and at the end of each session, parents take home a copy of the material that has been presented, in English and Spanish. Topics discussed recently have included: Traffic Safety, Block Play and how it Benefits a Child's Mind, How Children Learn to Play, General Fears and Anxieties in Children and How to Tame a Temper Tantrum.

For more information on our Parenting classes, contact Ms. Rubi Santos, Even Start Parent Educator at 830-931-4051 ext. 190.
